Are you in the habit of delaying or postponing the crucial tasks? Do you deliberately avoid the essential tasks and do something instead? If yes, you are procrastinating, and you are not alone. We all procrastinate. But it is a habit that can stand between us and our goals. Good news? You can easily break this habit by following ways, so read on.

1. Set Small Goals for Yourself

If you plan to write a book of a thousand words, then the thought of writing so many words may seem daunting to you. But your goal becomes achievable if you divide this goal into writing just 50 to 100 words daily.

Setting small, achievable goals is not only motivating, but it also sets the momentum to get the work going.

2. Plan Your Day in Advance

Suppose you do not know what you will do in your day; indecisiveness kicks in and causes procrastination. The best way to overcome this issue is to plan your day.

Make a schedule for the following day at the end of every day. Set realistic, small, and achievable goals with deadlines. It will save you the hassle of procrastinating.

3. The Nothing Alternative

Suppose you give yourself a choice of doing your task or doing nothing in a particular time frame. Guess what? You will quickly get bored by doing nothing and be compelled to do the task you are procrastinating.

So next time you procrastinate, give yourself a time frame, say 60 minutes, and then do the task or nothing. We hope that you will prefer doing the task than doing nothing.

4. Commit to Just 5 minutes.

The hardest part of doing something is getting started. You get into motion once you start and complete a tiny chunk of the task. So commit yourself to a task for 5 minutes and then see the magic. Your commitment will not be limited to only 5 minutes.

5. Forgive Yourself

It is easy to attack yourself for not meeting the deadline. But this attitude only makes things worse. Being kind and forgiving yourself for occasionally not completing the tasks in time will help you beat procrastination.

Bottom Line

Procrastination may become second nature to you. But in reality, it can cause anxiety, frustration, poor mental health and even job loss. So be wise and do those pending tasks by following the above tips. Good luck!
